Gamifying Primary Students’ Reading Process through an Online Battle Platform: Factors for Success and Obstacles to be Overcome

This project adopts a participatory design approach to invite active contributions of different key stakeholders in a Reading Battle (RB) reading programme to develop a model implementation of RB, which can be replicated across schools. Impact of modifying the game mechanics to include a social game element (i.e. book chatroom) and special e-badges for different achievements on students’ reading motivation and achievement will also be examined. Findings from this study will shed light on how RB can best serve primary students and achieves its intended aims.
