EdUHK Learning from Its Big Data

The project aims to enhance EdUHK’s capacity to learn from its Big Data. Project team will

  • document current data flow practices across systems,

  • identify the extent of data inconsistencies in current databases,

  • secure and facilitate information flow across database systems with minimal disruption,

  • identify administrative, faculty, and student issues that analysis of EdUHK data can inform,

  • anonymise relevant data to ensure data privacy, and

  • showcase joint administrator, faculty and ARC analyses of anonymised EdUHK data to improve her policies and practices.

The project will produce improved data flow procedures and a model for administration and faculty to collaborate and analyse data to address critical EdUHK issues. The improved data flow procedures will be placed on EdUHK’s staff intranet for easy accessibility. Furthermore, this project will inform administrative policy and faculty instruction by showing which student applicant attributes, EdUHK student attributes and their actions are related to key student performance indicators. Administrators contemplating complex issues, policies or procedures benefit from analyses of EdUHK data to inform their decision-making. Superior decisions can potentially improve the lives and productivity of all members of the EdUHK community. Based on these results, faculty will write at least three research manuscripts on factors linked to students’ learning, social and emotional outcomes for submission to journals.
